It was finally time to get rid of the hedge which was already well established when I moved here 15 years ago. It had been maintained at the height of the wall so it remains a mystery why anyone would plant a hedge up against a wall. I can only assume it was to hide what is very ugly wall. Don't get me wrong, I love this wall, having a walled garden in Scotland creates a small sheltered oasis. More on 'Hedge Fest' here
I am going mad for the elements. Now I have 'water' pretty much nailed lets bring in the fire. This is Scotland after all, you need somewhere to warm your cockles moving into autumn.
So in love with my water pit, aka the posh drinkie I decided to take it to the next level and install a pond. Introducing in no particular order...
Opal, Jasper and Agate aka 'the shubbies'. Shubunkins.
Ziggy and the girls aka 'the shiners'. Rainbow Shiners.
Fred and Ginger. Goldfish.
I decided to create my very own water feature with some of the larger rocks I had collected over numerous rockhounding trips. So I ordered a cheap fire pit, chucked in my rocks and added a small solar powered water fountain to supply the trickling water vibe I was going for. Who knew it would just become a very posh water bowl for the dogs!
